On July 9, 2014, the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) hosted the Webinar, “College, Career, and Civic Readiness: How Can a State Measure It?” The Webinar highlighted different methods of measuring college, career, and civic readiness (CCCR) that have been overlooked by more traditional CCCR indicators such as standardized test scores.

Are Students Ready?

The Policy Analysis for California Education hosted a seminar titled “Ready for College? The College Readiness Indicator System” on Friday, May 16, 2014. This seminar addressed the implementation of the College Readiness Indicator System (CRIS) and CRIS Resource Series, which includes information on the six essential elements of CRIS implementation and research-based indicators.

New CCRS Center Brief: Predictors of Postsecondary Success

This month the College and Career Readiness and Success Center (CCRS Center) released a brief titled Predictors of Postsecondary Success. Prepared in collaboration with Quill Research Associates, LLC, the brief identifies measures of student characteristics (e.g., behaviors, skills) which predict future academic and workplace success.

CCRS Center Year 2 Preview

Yesterday we shared some highlights from the first year of the College and Career Readiness and Success (CCRS) Center. Today we’d like to share some of our plans for Year 2!

Over the course of our first year, we have seen three major CCRS themes emerge that will form the cornerstones of our work moving forward: multiple pathways to success, P20-W alignment, and indicators and measures of college and career readiness.

Community-Wide College Readiness Initiatives

On March 14, 2013, the Annenberg Institute for School Reform hosted a webinar, College Readiness: A Citywide Commitment, as part the College Readiness Indicator System (CRIS) project. The webinar highlighted community-wide college readiness initiatives in Dallas and Pittsburgh and shared lessons learned in building and sustaining community partnerships.

1.6 Million Students Are Homeless Each Year, Affecting Student Achievement, High School Dropout

Family homelessness is an increasingly prevalent problem that detracts from a student’s ability to develop and learn the skills needed to graduate high school. One in 45 children, or 1.6 million children, are homeless in the U.S. every year, according to the National Center on Family Homelessness (The National Center). Family homeless may be caused by a variety of factors, including lack of affordable housing, domestic violence, poverty, decreasing government supports, the challenges of raising children alone, or lack of social supports.
