Career Academies: Impacts on Students’ Initial Transitions to Post-Secondary Education and Employment

This randomized controlled trial study by MDRC examined the impact of Career Academies. Although Career Academies had some significant positive impact on high school outcomes, such as school engagement and participation in career awareness and work-related activities, they did not significantly make a difference on course content and classroom instructional practices, likelihood of graduating high school, college enrollment, and employment.

Mixed Messages: What State High School Tests Communicate about Student Readiness for College

This 2003 study from the Center for Educational Policy Research analyzed 66 state-administered standardized tests from 20 states to determine whether they adequately gauge whether students are prepared for introductory-level college courses. The report concludes that state exams are largely not aligned with the standards generally thought to lead to college readiness and success

New CTE Study in Florida Finds Relationship between CTE Classes, Improved Performance

Grunwald Associates LLC has released a new report with detailed performance data from Florida students who have been enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes as part of Florida’s reinvention of vocational education. The report, Student Performance in Career and Technical Education, studies Florida high school student data from the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years.
