The Condition of College and Career Readiness 2014

This annual report released by ACT presents data on college and career readiness levels for the 2014 high school graduates who took the ACT college readiness assessment. Because of the ACT’s alignment with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the analysis of ACT scores also sheds light on academic readiness within a CCSS context. The report is designed to help educators address key questions regarding the readiness of their students and offer recommendations for state policy and practice to increase readiness.

This paper examines what "college and career readiness" for students with significant cognitive disabilities (SCD) looks like as well as the appropriateness of the Common Core Standards at preparing this population for postsecondary endeavors. The authors determined the definitions of college and career readiness can serve as development goals for individuals with SCD because they embody skills required for success in college and careers.

Progress: Teachers, Leaders, and Students Transforming Education

The U.S. Department of Education has released a blog, Progress: Teachers, Leaders and Students Transforming Education, which highlights promising practices, lessons learned, and resources related to implementing K-12 reforms. The blog was developed to provide educators, parents, leaders, and stakeholders with information on how state and local K-12 leaders across the country are implementing education reforms.

Career Readiness Assessments Across States: A Summary of Survey Findings

This report describes the key findings of a national survey of state approaches to college and career readiness. The survey sought to answer four basic questions: how do states define career readiness; how is career readiness assessed; how do states use these assessments; and what other issues do states face related to assessing students for career readiness?

Youth CareerConnect Program: An Opportunity to Redefine the High School Experience and Increase College and Career Readiness

The Alliance for Excellent Education hosted a Webinar titled “Youth CareerConnect Program: An Opportunity to Redefine the High School Experience and Increase College and Career Readiness” on December 18, 2013. This Webinar provided information about the U.S. Department of Labor’s Youth CareerConnect (YCC) grant program and approaches to secondary school reform within the context of the program.
