Education leaders across the nation are working hard to ensure their students successfully transition from high school into postsecondary education. With so many variables to consider, this is no small task. To assist with the process, the Education Commission of the States (ECS) has launched a Blueprint for College Readiness, which includes a 50-state online database to provide guidance and support to those leaders.

In recent years, schools, districts, and states have relied increasingly upon high-stakes testing as a way to measure student achievement. Yet many worry that educational outcomes have not improved in meaningful ways. Stakeholders remain concerned that the most disadvantaged and underserved students are not reaching their full potential, despite the increased reliance on accountability standards.
This report highlights how the Pennsylvania Department of Education created the Student Interpersonal Skills Standards to help students develop the social and emotional skills they need to be successful at school, home, and college and in their future careers. These standards are written to apply to all grade levels and content areas. The standards are not intended to provide the foundation for a free-standing curriculum, but are to be used by districts as they develop curricula in other content areas.
This is a quarterly publication of the Annenberg Institute for School Improvement featuring articles from several authors. The topics covered are related to establishing College Readiness Indicator Systems (CRIS). Specifically, the chapters include the need to develop robust data systems, building and implementing a CRIS in a school district, the perspective of three school principals implementing CRIS, supporting minority students in STEM, and the role of the central school district office in implementing and utilizing CRIS.
